The Ape Star

Moving and funny about being a somewhat different family.

8-year-old Jonna has always dreamt of having her very own mother. She has lived all her life in an orphanage. One day a rickety old car turns up outside the orphanage and a gorilla steps out. The gorilla adopts Jonna. It doesn’t take long for the two to realise they have so much more in common than what they first thought. But when they start feeling like a real family a man called Tord shows up. He has plans to build a large water park on the plot of land where the gorilla and Jonna live. If the gorilla doesn’t sell the land to Tord he threatens to return Jonna to the orphanage.

The film is based on the award-winning book by Frida Nilsson.
