The Whaler Boy

Winner, EU Youth Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival!

Leshka is a teenage boy living in an isolated Russian village of whale hunters. Every day pretty much looks the same, except when the men of the village gather around the computer screen. The Internet has given them access to cam girls, young women showing off in their underwear. Leshka falls head over heels for one of the girls and becomes obsessed with the idea of going to the US to meet her.

The Whaler Boy was made because the director wanted to shed light on this particular culture and the cinematography makes the grey and harsh coastline look very beautiful.
